Summer is officially here and, apparently, not going away anytime soon (Evian spray, please!). Here in the Inland Empire, where temps can be in the triple digits to 80’s-90’s in the evening, that still doesn’t mean I want to go naked makeup-wise when it comes to an evening out on the town. Enter the world of contour. Who doesn’t know about it by now? (Thanks, Kim Kardashian!)
I’ve tried the very popular Tarte Park Avenue Princess face sculptor. It’s a simple crayon-looking stick that literally slims your face down and focuses the spotlight on your cheekbones (or anywhere else you want to accentuate). When you put it on (or any contouring product for that matter), it looks completely ridiculous – until you rub it in and follow with a bit of bronzing powder (I like Nars’ bronzing powder). Then, all of a sudden, you can see the effect and you think to yourself, “How did I ever live without this product?”
My issue with the Tarte Park Avenue Princess was its value for the money (duh; knowing me) – it seemed like I went through it so quickly. I was visiting Ulta more frequently than I was getting my nails done. The product just didn’t seem to last for me. And then I was at Sephora, and I saw this awesome two for one contour and highlight stick from Nars. I decided to try it – – and…
It’s a total winner! I have had it for six months and it doesn’t break off, or send me searching for the nearest beauty store when I’m on vacation. I know there will be people who don’t agree with my opinion, but it’s what has worked for me. I feel like Nars doesn’t get the credit they deserve for their innovative products.
What’s your fave contouring product?
I guess getting older is part of life; and along with it comes an adjustment – to life, to your energy level, and of course, to retail stores deciding to change the brands and styles they carry.
Along with this revelation, Sephora has proved to be no exception. This past weekend they were running a 2x points on skincare promotion, so naturally, I stopped by to pick up some of the goodies I mentioned in my last post.
I decided to seek out a new leave-in conditioner (I love Fekkai) and was shocked when I was greeted with only a handful of options – and none of the ones I’m used to seeing. What the $%%##? Fekkai is nowhere to be found! The lady informed me they no longer carry that brand. Why? Is it too low-scale for their classy hair products?
I’m the kind of girl that carries a separate container in my purse chock-full of coupons. I love deals. But I also love luxury and prefer to dabble in both.
Is Sephora getting too snobby and exclusive with their haircare products? Or am I just getting too old and stuck in my ways? What do you think?
Happy 2015 to you all! Sorry I’ve been on a writing hiatus lately with the holidays and end of year festivities.
Did you make any New Year’s Resolutions? I sure did. Continue my yoga and pilates regimen, and continue eating cleaner! What’s helped me stick to my resolution is following a ton of yoga and clean eating inspired Instagrams.
Along with clean eating, I’m getting into products lately that clean my face and leave it ready for a good night’s rest, such as Murad’s Hydrating Toner – this stuff doesn’t burn my face and it gets the job done. What is it about the New Year that makes me run to Ulta and Sephora? I seem to always run out of products around the same time, twice a year! How convenient for the stores and inconvenient for my wallet!
Even thought it’s January and freezing in many parts of the country, this doesn’t mean the sun isn’t an issue. Lather up on that SPF, ladies and gents! I prefer some SPF tinted moisturizers that don’t make me dehydrate halfway through the day. Some faves are the Christian Dior BB Creme with SPF and Tarte SPF Tinted Moisturizer.
What are your Wednesday Must Want Clean Beauty Items?
I love Ulta beauty for many reasons including coupons and sales! They always have deals or are sending me coupons and if I forget them, I can look them up on Retailmenot. It’s one of my fave couponing apps on my phone.
And just wanted to share with you that I was able to find Cargo cosmetics for 50% off there! What a steal! Anyone else have good luck with Ulta or deals they want to share??
