Summer is officially here and, apparently, not going away anytime soon (Evian spray, please!). Here in the Inland Empire, where temps can be in the triple digits to 80’s-90’s in the evening, that still doesn’t mean I want to go naked makeup-wise when it comes to an evening out on the town. Enter the world of contour. Who doesn’t know about it by now? (Thanks, Kim Kardashian!)
I’ve tried the very popular Tarte Park Avenue Princess face sculptor. It’s a simple crayon-looking stick that literally slims your face down and focuses the spotlight on your cheekbones (or anywhere else you want to accentuate). When you put it on (or any contouring product for that matter), it looks completely ridiculous – until you rub it in and follow with a bit of bronzing powder (I like Nars’ bronzing powder). Then, all of a sudden, you can see the effect and you think to yourself, “How did I ever live without this product?”
My issue with the Tarte Park Avenue Princess was its value for the money (duh; knowing me) – it seemed like I went through it so quickly. I was visiting Ulta more frequently than I was getting my nails done. The product just didn’t seem to last for me. And then I was at Sephora, and I saw this awesome two for one contour and highlight stick from Nars. I decided to try it – – and…
It’s a total winner! I have had it for six months and it doesn’t break off, or send me searching for the nearest beauty store when I’m on vacation. I know there will be people who don’t agree with my opinion, but it’s what has worked for me. I feel like Nars doesn’t get the credit they deserve for their innovative products.
What’s your fave contouring product?
Just wanted to update you all to let you know of the great deal I got on one of my fave sites, reveboutique! As you may know, I am a huge Sky fan and when I can, I travel to their main warehouse on Robertson Blvd. when I’m in LA. Recently, along the lines of Sky, I have discovered Parides, a brand of kaftan-like dresses. I’ve always wanted to get one, and when I was scouring the internet, I realized that reveboutique has a special promo code for 10% off with code “REVE10” (thanks, retailmenot!)
Anyway, the patterns on the dresses are amazing and the fact you can wear the dress 3 different ways sealed the deal. What do you think of my new purchase? Here’s Kyle Richards from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills in a similar pattern (um, can I have the bag too?!) It’s also a motivator since I have lost some weight thanks to all the yoga and pilates I’ve been doing!
So I know this post comes about a month after Juicy closed all of its US stores, but I have been in grieving silence for the past month trying to collect my thoughts.
I am a lady who has 1/4 of her closet arranged by colors of the rainbow (red to black and every gradient in between) of Juicy Tracksuits. #dontjudgemeplease
I am so going to miss their lines of colorful, fun, playful fabrics (terrycloth and velour all day long) and two-piece swimsuits that actually fit me. I think they had a Pinkberry problem – what I mean is too many products, too much expansion…too fast. I mean, my dog was seriously missing their pooch line – okay, I was totally missing their pooch line, no offense to Coach but I’m over them (Coach stuff seems to fall apart on me every other day…bought a purse and used it once, it looks like I’ve taken it through a dryer cycle on full speed).
And as for the new posts out there comparing Juicy to Lululemon, maybe they’re onto something. Maybe the modern woman wants to look classy and put together. Okay, so who says you can’t do that in a Juicy tracksuit? Why do you gotta be all matchy-matchy with it, Paris? I prefer to wear one Juicy item at a time – and heck, even mix and match my outfits.
And yes, I will be venturing out to Kohl’s to check out the new Juicy line — hope it doesn’t turn into a Hard Candy fiasco (I hate setting foot in Walmart)…
Onwards & upwards,
The Socal Socialite
I finally succumbed to trying the latest trend in yoga fashion, lululemon. I usually would just save my Victoria’s Secret old t-shirts and pants and workout in those, but it was only a matter of time before I began seeing lululemon pants and workout gear showing up to the yoga mats all around me on the regular. I started to feel out of fashion and sloppy. Almost crunchy, like how dare I put on these old clothes when I can be fashionable, fabulous and fitness-savvy?
I didn’t even use the fitting room, I just figured what my size was and took a go. Of course, being that I always like looking for the deals, I wasn’t about to make a regular priced purchase – I made it work from the sale rack. Got my first pair of yoga pants for $76, marked down from $92, and my first tank top for $32 marked down from $42. Yes please, I’ll save $26 anywhere I can.
I slide the pants and shirt on and wow, I feel lighter already. Toned, slimmer, and ready to hit the mat. Unfortunately, I was going to a vinyasa flow class and didn’t realize how sweaty I would get. I rolled up the pants into capris about halfway through the class, but other than that, I left feeling even lighter and still feeling like I could go to lunch or run errands without everyone knowing I had just burned a bunch of calories.
Yes, lululemon is addicting, but there is just something about feeling like you are put together even when you are working out. It’s an extra dose of self-esteem for the fashion-conscious female who is all about fitness. 🙂
Do you have an experience (good or bad) with lululemon fashion? I’d love to hear it in the comment section below!!
Nothing like a good sale over President’s Weekend, and I love me some coupons. But usually I hate getting tons of emails day after day from the store, trying to entice me to come in to buy something.
One of these exceptions is my email subscription to the Victoria’s Secret email list. This past weekend it saved me 20% off a most expensive item (I used it twice, no blackouts!) and saved me $40 in total. Love not spending retail price!!
What’s your favorite item to buy at Victoria’s Secret? I can never decide. I have almost the entire Pink collection and their Bridal selection is pretty awesome too (my hubby to be certainly doesn’t mind shopping there!). I’m definitely not an “extreme couponer”, but at the same time, I do stockpile my body lotions and bath gels from there. This weekend they also had their Fragrance Mists for just $5 (normally $12), so I picked up a couple. Gotta have my bathroom smelling nice! Their Pink fragrances are also a great deal and last literally forever compared to other designer scents. I wonder why that is!
