And no, I’m not talking about the shoes you find in the store parking lot or right next to a dumpster (not that I find them over there, either). I’m talking the shoes you find at a Nordstrom Rack store near you.
Recently on our last trip to the outlets, we stopped by Nordstrom Rack and among our shopping genius finds, picked up a couple pairs of shoes. Our total came to 150 bucks, which we found to be strange considering we had 7 items (and 2 pairs of shoes!)
The saleslady said, “One of your shoe purchases came up as one cent!”
I was floored. I’d purchased a pair of Splendid shoes at a Nordstrom Rack once which originally cost $110 and then rang up as $5, so I felt that I was almost being paid to walk out of the store with them.
But one cent? What the heck can you even purchase these days that is normally one cent?
What was your best outlet score?
Onwards & Upwards,
This past week, I was lucky enough to be upgraded to a junior suite at the Fairmont Hotel in Newport Beach for the price of a regular room. It was a sweet deal. How can you also be lucky enough to get free upgrades and feel like a VIP? Here are 4 tips:
1) Join the loyalty club. Likely it is free and comes with great perks, such as free internet, and exclusive promotional rates for the hotel. Also, there is a greater likelihood that the hotel will give you free upgrades when they see you are a loyalty member.
2) Make friends at the reception desk. Name-dropping (“Dave always puts me on the suite floor”) sometimes does the trick.
3) Request a room on a higher floor. Sometimes busy reservation agents won’t think twice and accidentally may book you for a room you didn’t choose and usually, this is a winning situation for you, the savvy traveler.
4) Talk about the purpose for your visit. Special event? Party? Whatever the case, play it up. The reservationist may want to increase your loyalty to the hotel, and therefore book you to a room you won’t forget. (hence, it worked this time, as I blogged about it!!)
Any other tips you have to get a great VIP room at a great price? I’d love to see them below in the comments section.
Onwards & upwards,
I just wanted to share with you that I saved over $1500 booking my honeymoon to Hawaii with Orbitz. (www.orbitz.com). Wow, that sounds like a commercial tagline. I swear I’m not being paid for this! 😉
How, you may ask?
Simply enter the word “Celebrate” in the promo code box at checkout. If your hotel qualifies, you could save 15%!!
I believe tomorrow 1/8/14 is the last day to take advantage, but just wanted to pass on the good word.
